I guess I liked this book even though I kept thinking that I might be a better person if I didn't. It's a somewhat guilty pleasure about a seemingly nice guy who was a very talented photographer who died too young, his work and the shallow people who inhabited his world. It's a chaotic book in that it's mostly his friends and family talking about his life, his friends, themselves and most of all his dysfunctional pretentious mother. The statements aren't put into an interview form but rather a hodgepodge collection of random thoughts. Herb Ritts was a very talented photographer with a formula for shooting models and celebrities that made him well known and wealthy. His work served a commercial purpose, was very well done but I don't think that they will pass the test of time. If you are looking for a very slanted biography of a talented photographer mixed in with gossip and drama this book is for you. My guess is that after you read it you'll probably want to go hug the kids.
